In the current category, Blackberry, Opera and Firefox are leading the pack. Android and iOS (Mobile Safari) browsers are nowhere in the Top 5. Great news? Yes and no.
It means the top 3 mobile browsers are pushing the envelope, trying to level the playing field. On the other hand, it means innovation is slowing on Android and Mobile Safari. Cook something good, Apple and Google!
Three other datasets that are missing, that I would like to research on:
In the development/beta category, Tizen is taking the lead with a near perfect score of 492. We’ve played with a Tizen 2.2 device earlier this year, and found the mobile performance for HTML5 games acceptable. Converting it to a native format (into widget format) solved orientation issues, but didn’t increase performance. We’ll have more data on Tizen in an upcoming blog post.
The future is bright for mobile browsers.
- performance of HTML5 games on these devices, across a wide range of games
- the market share of each device, by geography
- developer adoption
